Five teams will spend their winter furlough working on a business idea that could turn into their future career — and also a hefty check.

They’re going to take their exams remotely, reducing that movement on public transportation and airlines and reducing that possibility of having COVID-19 come back to campus.

Cadets, who can’t leave campus before returning home for the long Thanksgiving/winter furlough, enjoyed some fun diversions for the on-campus weekend.

Cadets will not be granted leave before the furlough departure. They will, however, be able to enjoy food trucks, increased intramural activities and outdoor games.

According to a tag on the back, it was given to donors who contributed up to a certain amount to the “Promoting the Advancement of Citadel Education.”

“Loneliness and isolation that’s already a contributing factor to veteran suicide, I think is exacerbated given the current climate and the social distancing.”

Two cadets will be named a Henry Dale Smith Public Speaking Award Winner at the college’s annual Commencement Week Awards Convocation.
