Citadel cadets on Thursday evening laid out one American flag — 2,996 in total — for each victim of the Sept. 11 attacks.

“I think it’s important to honor the men, women and children who lost their lives that day, whether they were civilians or emergency responders. But it’s also the first 9/11 that we don’t have troops in Afghanistan.”

Clarence Brisbane was promoted from officer to patrol sergeant, and Thomas Shaffer was promoted from dispatcher to patrol officer.

at 5:30 p.m., the group of knobs, led by the upperclassmen tasked with training them, marched onto Summerall Field to take the Cadet Oath.

“I am confident the Corps of Cadets will help lead us out of this pandemic; therefore, I am incentivizing cadets to get vaccinated with an overnight. Additionally, the company with the highest vaccination rate will be excused from the Commandant’s Inspection.”

Eight young men and women, each from different backgrounds, begin to describe why they decided to attend The Citadel.

“We are ready for the challenges the pandemic brings, and maintain resources and best practices used during the last academic year.”

Our year was unique compared to many institutions, as The Citadel maintained a safe, on-campus experience, while keeping COVID cases in check.
