Seven members of the South Carolina National Guard are on a 20-day deployment…in The Citadel’s libraryworking to protect healthcare workers against COVID-19.

Despite the inability to host a traditional event, Memorial Day 2020 would not be disregarded by the Association of the U.S. Army and the Citadel Alumni Association.

As each spring semester closes, The Citadel recognizes some of the outstanding cadets and active duty students at the college through a series of awards.

Nearly 600 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets accepted diplomas during The Citadel’s virtual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9.

Citadel cadets who earned commissions as officers in the U.S. Army celebrated via a virtual event offered by the college’s Palmetto Battalion AROTC unit.

The Citadel is remembering, and posthumously honoring, two dedicated servant leaders who were to receive honorary degrees as part of the 2020 commencements.

Approximately a third of the South Carolina Class of 2020 earn commissions to become military officers upon graduating which will be close to 200.

40 – 45 cadets from the Class of 2020 earning commissions into the Navy and Marine Corps will be recognized during a virtual ceremony on May 10.
