The Citadel announces additional March 1 weekend events as part of its 25 Years of Female Cadet Graduates celebrations

The Citadel is excited to announce additional events celebrating 25 Years of Female Cadet Graduates. On the weekend of March 1, The Citadel will host a parade, Presidential reception, panel discussion on academic achievement and a reunion brunch for female cadet graduates of the past 25 years.

The first event for the weekend will be an alumnae mentoring panel discussion and lunch on Friday, March 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Bastin Hall Atrium. Each academic school at The Citadel will invite alumnae, as well as longtime female faculty and staff, to the event to share their unique academic and professional experiences and stories, as well as connect with current female cadets. The panel discussion will be about mentoring tomorrow’s leaders.

A parade to honor and recognize female cadet alumnae and their accomplishments will take place on Friday, March 1. The parade will begin at 3:45 p.m. A reception — hosted by The Citadel President Gen. Glenn M. Walters, USMC (Ret.), ‘79 — will immediately follow after the parade.

Sarah Zorn, ’19, will throw out the first pitch at The Citadel baseball game vs. Harvard on Friday, March 1 at 5 p.m. at Joe Riley Stadium. In 2018, Zorn was named regimental commander, the highest-ranking cadet officer in command of the Corps of Cadets. Zorn’s achievement marked a pivotal moment, as she made history as the first woman in the military college’s history to lead the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.

On both Friday and Saturday, Citadel alumnae are invited to share short stories of their cadet experience with The Citadel Archives. Stories will be video recorded and will become a permanent collection in the archives. To reserve a time slot on March 1 or 2 for a five to 10 minute recording, visit this link. If you are not able to attend in person, email archivist Tessa Updike at tupdike@citadel.edu to schedule a Zoom recording later this spring.

The events on Saturday, March 2, will kick off with an alumnae brunch in the Bastin Hall Atrium. Sarah Zorn will be a featured speaker at this event, and alumnae are invited to enjoy brunch while reconnecting with other graduates as well as current female cadets.

Discounted tickets are available to alumnae and their families for all of The Citadel’s baseball games happening on March 1 weekend. Click here to purchase and use code “25Years” to receive $5 tickets. Input the promo code at the top of the webpage and select any of the games against Harvard to receive discounted tickets.

In the event any alumna did not receive an emailed invitation, please contact rsvp@citadel.edu to RSVP.
