More than 800 students from around South Carolina compete in annual STEM event. Students from around the state are celebrating the results of their hard work after taking top spots in the eighth annual Storm The Citadel event.

Fun and learning will combine as K-12, college and corporate teams gather to compete during the eighth annual Storm The Citadel STEM competition Saturday, Feb. 10. This year, more than 120 teams will participate in trebuchet, bridge building, Lego robotics and water bottle rocket competitions.

The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE) approved a new Construction Engineering Bachelor of Science degree program at The Citadel during its meeting Dec. 7 in Columbia.

Engineering has held strong as one of the hardest jobs to fill according to and it seems U.S. colleges can’t produce enough graduates to meet the demand.

Undergraduate researchers are vigorously engaged in discovery and learning at The Citadel throughout the year.

A Citadel professor who spends much of his time teaching engineering on campus, spends the remainder of his time working with a team of researchers at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in Adelphi, Maryland. Gregory Mazzaro, Ph.D., is a faculty member in The Citadel’s Electrical Engineering Department.
