Comprised of former Navy and Marine Corps pilots and flight officers, the Naval Aviation alumni choir will perform a patriotic repertoire around the country to reflect their pride of national service through music on Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Capers Hall auditorium.
In addition, the Bo Moore Art Gallery will be open before and after the event. Both are free and open to the public.

On Friday, Oct. 11, in partnership with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA, The Citadel’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences will co-sponsor the Strengthening the U.S.-Japan Security Alliance in South Carolina symposium. This event, which will feature Citadel alumnus Lt. Gen. Larry Nicholson as the keynote speaker, will discuss the importance of the U.S.-Japan Alliance to peace in East Asia and promote more awareness of our close relationship with Japan.
This event is free and open to the public.
Applied Physics Experience for high school students

The Citadel’s Department of Physics will host an Applied Physics Experience for high school students on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The event offers students the opportunity to have fun learning about applied physics, collaborating with Citadel faculty and cadets, make engaging devices, learn how they work and also learn more about the cadet experience from physics majors.
Recent event projects include discovering the physics of string shooters, biologically inspired light seeking robots, microphone sensor system, sound activated LEDs, DIY metal detector and mechanical laser light show.
The registration fee is $35, and it covers all supplies, snacks and lunch.

Women’s Leadership Workshop – Leading with humor, power and impact: 4 languages of leadership

The Citadel’s Executive Leadership Academy is holding a Women’s Leadership Workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Communication is arguably the most important skill a leader has in their tool kit. The style and effectiveness of a person’s communication skills will determine their success or failure as a leader. Guest speaker, LB Adams, CEO of Practical Dramatics, will discuss the four languages of leadership and how attendees can have better, more profitable conversations.
The registration cost is $300, which includes breakfast, lunch and workshop materials. All interested in attending must register for the event at this link.

On Wednesday, Oct. 16, regularly scheduled classes at The Citadel are replaced with Leadership Day Service Projects and Leadership Seminars for all cadets. More than 1,100 freshman and sophomore cadets will engage in service activities at more than 35 locations across the Lowcountry. Cadets will lead classroom activities with elementary students, help assemble “The Wall That Heals” traveling Vietnam memorial, build homes with Habitat for Humanity, canvas businesses for the upcoming Veteran’s Day parade and many more activities. Junior and senior cadets will attend leadership and ethics seminars at federal and state agencies, museums, businesses and corporations across South Carolina.
On average, more than 7,000 hours of service to the Lowcountry are provided by the cadets each Leadership Day. This year will be historic as The Citadel will surpass 100,000 hours of service from Leadership Day since its inception in 2010.
The Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics sponsors the event.
The Citadel Class of 1979 has donated nearly $1 million to permanently endow the “Class of 1979 Leadership Day.” Thirty-seven members of their class will be alongside cadets at various locations for Leadership Day.
Open Source Intelligence Conference

The Citadel’s Department of Intelligence and Security Studies, teamed with the Department of Political Science’s Governor John C. West Chair, will host an OSINT, or Open Source Intelligence, Conference on Oct. 23 through Oct. 25. This conference will bring together OSINT practitioners in academia, the private sector and the government to drive OSINT partnerships, innovation, technology, tradecraft, education and workforce development.
Panels and speakers will include government experts and leaders in the OSINT field along with policy makers to facilitate discussions, collaboration and information sharing in support of national security objectives.

Cyber Awareness Month events
The Citadel’s Department of Cyber and Computer Sciences will hold multiple events throughout October, which is Cyber Security Awareness Month, for members of The Citadel community.

The Citadel DoD Cyber Institute, or CDCI, has established “COA” which stands for CLDP Outreach Ambassadors. COA is comprised of students within the CDCI Cohort that have shown tremendous leadership skills and excitement about sharing their cyber knowledge and skillsets with elementary, middle, and high school students. COA members will prepare interactive cybersecurity presentations that will be shared in several different schools in our community and the surrounding tri-county area.
