Gold Star Parade 2023

Parade and reception honoring Charles Foster’s legacy and the African American graduates from the Class of 1973

During the first Friday of Black History Month, the South Carolina Corps of Cadets’ dress parade will honor the legacy of Charles Foster, ’70, and the 50th anniversary of the African American graduates of the Class of 1973.

Parade begins at 3:45 p.m. on Summerall Field. After, The Citadel President Gen. Glenn Walters, USMC (Ret.), ’79, will host invited cadets, students, faculty, staff and alumni for a reception at his home on campus.

The Citadel Chinese Program’s Lunar New Year Banquet

Join The Citadel’s Chinese Program in celebrating 2023 Lunar New Year at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 at the Swain Boating Center.

This free event is open to Chinese speakers or anyone taking Chinese courses at The Citadel, giving an opportunity to enjoy authentic Chinese food, learn about Chinese culture and meet Chinese speakers within The Citadel community.

The Citadel Spring 2023 Career and Internship Fair

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, The Citadel Career Center is hosting the spring semester’s Career and Internship Fair for cadets and students. From 1 – 4 p.m., more than 45 employers will be on campus hiring and recruiting all majors for full time and internship positions. Cadets and students should come prepared with copies of their resume.

Storm The Citadel 2023

One of the largest STEM events in the Lowcountry will take place at The Citadel on Saturday, Feb. 11. Starting at 8:30 a.m., Storm The Citadel will involve teams of K-12 students traveling to campus to compete in various science, math and engineering challenges include launching hand-made trebuchets (medieval-style catapults), firing water bottle rockets, testing miniature bridges and competing with Lego robots.

Through Storm The Citadel, the college’s STEM Center of Excellence –  along with the School of Engineering, the Zucker Family School of Education and the Swain Family School of Science and Mathematics – promote STEM education and allows students to use the skills they learn in the classroom in tangible, exciting ways.

The event draws hundreds of students, teachers, coaches, parents and spectators each year.

The Citadel African American Society Bazaar

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, The Citadel African American Society will host the annual Black History Month Bazaar. The event, open to visitors from across the Lowcountry, will run from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. and will feature live music from the GW Band, multiple food trucks and various cultural events and celebrations.

Lecture by SEWE-featured artist Ryan Kirby

Wildlife artist Ryan Kirby will be on campus speaking to cadets and students about his work on Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. Kirby has been an annual guest speaker at The Citadel since 2016, where he has connected with cadets and students around a shared love of nature and hunting expressed through drawings and paintings.

Kirby has been named the 2023 featured artist for the Southeastern Wildlife Expo (SEWE) which includes a wide range of everything to love about wildlife and nature through the event, including fine art exhibits, conservation education and sporting demonstrations.

Citadel professor book discussion on segregation in South Carolina

Citadel professor and author Damon L. Fordham will discuss his latest book “1895 Segregation Fight in South Carolina.” Fordham is known for his work as an educator, author and historian who specializes in U.S. history and African American studies. Fordham is an alumnus of The Citadel Graduate College.

His book details the story of six Black leaders taking a stance against a governor adamant about rewriting the South Carolina Constitution to deny African Americans their constitutional rights and make segregation the law in the state.

Join the SALSA (Student Association of Latin and Spanish Awareness) Club & Sigma Delta Pi to ring in the new semester and to celebrate Dominican Carnaval, and to learn more about the Dominican Republic, its relation to slavery, and the importance of art and dance. On Carnaval Day One, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Carnaval’s history and tap into their creativity by decorating carnaval masks as they delight in Dominican snacks.

Law enforcement and first responders industry information session

The Career Center is teaming up with Citadel Public Safety to host the Law Enforcement and First Responders Industry Info Session. Local, state and federal level agencies will be on campus to recruit and talk with students about full-time, part-time and internship opportunities.

2023 MATHCOUNTS competition for Lowcountry middle school students

After a two-year hiatus, MATHCOUNTS Competition for Lowcountry Middle School Students will be returning in-person on The Citadel campus inside the Buyer Auditorium, located inside Mark Clark Hall, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24.

MATHCOUNTS is a non-profit organization that provides engaging math programs to U.S. middle school students of all ability levels to build confidence and improve attitudes about math and problem-solving.

Semester-long donation for those in need

Fundraiser lasts throughout the spring semester (January-May)
Physical item drop off: Bond Hall Room 164, The Citadel Campus

The Clinical Counseling Programs Diversity initiative, headlined by Bernetha Davis and Nicole Thompson, is collecting monetary and physical items to create homeless/poverty kits. These items will be collected throughout the months of January through May. Members from the Psychology Department will meet at the end of the fundraiser to put the kits together. The kits will be distributed to local homeless shelters. PayPal or cash donations are also accepted.

Items needed for each kit include:

  • Toiletries (Toothbrush/paste, soap, dry shampoo, etc.)
  • Rain poncho
  • Lightly used blankets
  • 2 pairs of socks
  • Face masks
  • Nonperishables 
  • Beanie
  • Scarf
  • Lightly used clothes (Shirts, Pants, Dresses, Jackets, etc.)
