2024 Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit

Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette is the keynote speaker for the 2024 Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit, which will take place on Thursday, Aug. 1, inside Bastin Hall. The summit will teach participants the business skills to help launch and grow a business. The event will feature sessions on entrepreneurship, a panel discussion and all attending service members or their spouses can receive the Boots 2 Business Small Business Association certification.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.

Matriculation Day

Saturday, Aug. 10

Open to the media, RSVP is required

Incoming freshman from the Class of 2028 will report to The Citadel’s campus on Matriculation Day to begin their training as future members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.

Cadet recruits will arrive at the Holliday Alumni Center between 7 and 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, to be assigned to their company. They will then proceed to their respective barracks, receive room assignments and physical training uniforms and say goodbye to their families before beginning orientation and training. Volunteer parents from The Citadel Family Association assist the freshman and their parents as they move their belongings into their rooms.

Oath Ceremony

The Oath Ceremony for The Citadel Class of 2028 will begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12. The freshman cadet candidates will stand on Summerall Field and take an oath pledging to abide by the college’s core values of honor, duty and respect as future members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.

In the spring, the freshman cadets will participate in the Oath Renewal ceremony at Marion Square on Recognition Day.

The Oath Ceremony will be streamed live from The Citadel’s Facebook page and on YouTube.

First day of fall 2024 classes

Exhibit opening

The opening reception for the newest exhibit to be displayed in The Citadel’s Winfred B. Moore Jr. Art Gallery will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29.

“Opening the Gates: Artistic Connections on The Citadel Campus” will feature drawings, paintings, photographs, prints, video and fabric art by artists including Robert Lange, Annie Leibovitz, Mary Whyte, Alice Keeney, Dos Bandidos, Mary Edna Fraser, Jim Booth, John Duckworth, and more. They are just some of the many distinguished artists who have made their mark on The Citadel’s Fine Arts program over the years.

Following the opening celebrations, the exhibit will remain on view in the gallery from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on weekdays.

First parade of the year

The Citadel will hold its first military dress parade of the year on Friday, Aug. 30, at 3:45 p.m.

The tradition of parading troops can be traced back to the time of Alexander the Great, and the South Carolina Corps of Cadets’ Friday afternoon dress parades reflect those drill procedures and movements of the past.

Modern day dress parades are conducted to inspect troops, render honors, preserve tradition and foster espirit de corps. At various times throughout the year, parades are also used to present awards and recognize students, faculty, staff and other notable figures.
