The Citadel’s presidential search committee has announced the four finalists to become the college’s 21st president.

Gen. Glenn Walters, USMC (Ret.), ’79, announced today that the spring semester will be his last at The Citadel as he prepares to retire at the end of June 2026.

Degrees to be presented to Lt. Col. George McMillan, ’38, and Army Ranger Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Celiz, ’08

The President’s List, awarded for academic and military excellence, is one of the most distinguished cadet awards presented by The Citadel.

It seems long ago that we began to fully understand the impact that COVID-19 would have on the world and, closer to home, our college.

The Citadel President Gen. Walters, Provost Dr. Selden, and Commandant of Cadets Capt. Paluso, led a virtual town hall meeting to discuss Matriculation Day.

A Cobra pilot who later was instrumental in establishing the MV-22 program, Gen Walters’ career has taken him far beyond the cockpit and has been marked by numerous challenges and successes.

A Presidential Change of Command Ceremony will occur during a military review parade scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 13th.

Citadel alumni from Sumter spoke well of Walters and look forward to his leadership at the college.

After leading The Citadel as president for 12 years, Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa, USAF (Ret.) departs June 30 with the honored title of President Emeritus.
