The Citadel has announced the 61 rising-senior cadets who are now officially members of the elite military drill troupe.

Members of the Class of 2026 are now officially recognized as part of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.

On Friday, March 24, freshmen – called knobs – from the Class of 2026 will begin one of the most important and highly anticipated events for a cadet. Recognition Day signals the end of the fourth-class system and the months of rules and restrictions that go with it.

The Class of 2022 Summerall Guards performed their last precision drills as a unit before passing their rifles to the new platoon earlier this spring.

Having completed the challenges of the fourth-class system, members of the Class of 2025 now begin a new phase of their journey through The Citadel’s four-year system of leadership development.

On Friday, March 25, cadets will leave their battalions as knobs for the final time to begin the Gauntlet. The next day, they will march together to Marion Square and renew their cadet oath.

The Palmetto Medal Award, one of the highest awards presented by The Citadel, would normally be presented during the 2020 Corps Day Weekend.

Early in March, before the campus was closed due to COVID-19, The Citadel held its annual Blue-White spring football game on Summerall Field.
