Talk of deep cuts in federal funding for basic and applied research this past spring had many in the scientific community alarmed.

The oldest member of The Citadel Class of 1954, Carmine Pecorelli, is The Citadel Alumni Association’s 2017 Alumnus of the Year. Pecorelli was presented with the award on Oct. 28 during the college’s homecoming weekend.

Chief Petty Officer Oliver Fuller Berry, a member of The Citadel Class of 1928, dedicated his life to serving others. Now, the Coast Guard cutter named in his honor will continue Berry’s legacy of service.

Leadership Day 2017 found the Corps of Cadets scattered all across the Lowcountry lending a hand and learning outside of the classroom what it means to be a leader.

Jenny Bramblett served for over two decades in the U.S. Air Force reaching the rank of major. Bramblett explains how her experience in the Air Force has influenced her work ethic and recently led her to working as executive secretary to the president.

The Citadel’s long-standing relationships with community partners such as the City of Charleston Recreation Department, the Charleston County School District, Habitat for Humanity and the Lowcountry Food Bank make it possible for cadets to learn the value of community service by volunteering on a regular basis.

Connie Ledoux Book, Ph.D., The Citadel provost and dean of the college, will become Elon University’s ninth president. Book came to The Citadel in 2015, as the second ranking official of the college.
