Finance Speaker Series

On Thursday, April 2, at 5:30 p.m., the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business will host their finance speaker series. The featured speaker will be David Rubenstein, co-founder and co-charian of the board of the Carlyle group.

This event is free and open to Citadel students as well as the media.  

Parris Island Marine Corps Band Concert

On Monday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m., the Parris Island Marine Corps Band will host their concert inside the Capers Hall auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

15th Annual Henry Dale Smith Public Speaking Competition

The 15th annual Henry Dale Smith Public Speaking Competition will be held on Tuesday April 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Capers Hall auditorium.

Public speaking continually ranks as one of the most sought-after skills in leadership, and the Henry Dale Smith Public Speaking Competition highlights The Citadel’s unique student body by bringing the most passionate, intellectual and ambitious leaders to the stage for a chance to win money and recognition.

The first winner receives a cash prize of $500 and the title of “The Lowcountry’s Best Speaker in 2026,” second place will receive $200 and third place will receive $100. “Viewer’s Choice,” voted on by the audience, will also receive a $50 gift card.

There are seats open to the public but must be reserved in advance by emailing sfourney@citadel.edu.

Final round of Baker Business Bowl

Wednesday, April 8
3 – 6 p.m.

The final round of the Baker Business Bowl will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8.

During the final round, those teams will present a full business plan for their idea — including marketing, pricing and production strategies, detailed financial projections, and other relevant business details — to a judging committee, which will decide the first and second place winner.

The first place prize is $10,000, meant to help them start their business; the second-place team will receive $5,000.

  • Charleston Family Golf

The Baker Business Bowl is a program aimed at helping budding entrepreneurs who have an idea for a new product or service and the desire to turn that idea into a business. The competition is open to cadets, evening undergraduate students and graduate students. The final five teams will be given the opportunity to attend a series of educational workshops on how to develop their full business plan. This year is the 11th year of the Baker Business Bowl.

Academic Excellence Day

Each spring at The Citadel, top cadets and students share their research at the annual Academic Excellence Day.

This year’s event will be held in-person in the Deas Hall gymnasium on Friday, April 10, from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Cadets and students will be presenting posters that represent the research they’ve conducted over the past year. Close to 100 student posters will be on display, representing scholarly work from a wide variety of disciplines.

Sport Management Conference and Health and Human Performance Career Fair

This conference and career fair are designed to provide Sport Management students with meaningful exposure to the sport industry by learning directly from professionals working at various levels of sport, including professional, collegiate, regional and local sports organizations. The goal is to help students better understand current trends in the sport management field, career pathways and how they can best prepare themselves for future opportunities.

Invited speakers will share their professional experiences, insights into the sport industry and advice for students who aspire to work in this field. Speakers will be part of a panel-style discussion, followed by a brief Q&A session with students. For the first session there will be two panelists joining from the St. Louis Cardinals and Nashville Predators, along with representatives from multiple sports organizations, such as the Cooper River Bridge Run, Charleston RiverDogs, Charleston Battery, South Carolina Stingrays, Credit, Credit One Charleston, The Citadel Athletics, College of Charleston Athletics and Charleston Southern University Athletics.

Academy of Engineers

The Citadel Academy of Engineers honors engineering leaders from both the public and private sectors who have enjoyed substantial success in their professional lives and made significant contributions to their communities. On Thursday, April 16, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., The Citadel Academy of Engineers will induct their 2026 honorees. This event will take place at the Holliday Alumni Center.

All inductees have lived a life consistent with The Citadel School of Engineering vision, which is to educate and innovate engineers that impact the world through principled leadership. Each inductee incorporates The Citadel’s core values of honor, duty and respect by building the reputation of engineering education excellence, modeling responsibility for student centered success and giving mutual respect in inclusion of all Citadel students. The Citadel Directors’ Institute

The Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business will host The Citadel Directors’ Institute (CDI) on April 17, 2026. This one-day program is designed for public and private company corporate directors and their executives to connect and engage in an active dialogue focused on strategic planning, risk, board governance, and other emerging issues and new challenges that company directors and executives face. It differs from other programs in that it provides an intimate setting where participants can develop relationships and interact with nationally recognized experts throughout the day.

CDI 2026 begins on the evening of April 16 with an opening reception.

US – Taiwan Security Cooperation under the Trump administration

As China continues to escalate military pressure near Taiwan, traditional security frameworks are facing unprecedented strain. This conference, scheduled for Friday, April 17, in Capers Hall auditorium, examines how Taiwan can transition toward a credible Asymmetric Defense Strategy to strengthen deterrence and enhance regional security. Bringing together distinguished speakers and experts, the conference will assess the feasibility of this strategic shift and explore a modernized model of U.S. – Taiwan security cooperation aimed at effectively preserving long‑term peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

Admitted Student Day 2026

The Citadel will host Admitted Student Day on Saturday, April 18. It will give those accepted to The Citadel for fall 2026 a chance to further explore the opportunities they will have as a cadet.

The goal of Admitted Student Day is to help prospective cadets understand what cadet life is like.

Visitors will have a chance to connect with future classmates, learn more about their major, watch a physical training demonstration, learn about different ways to pay for college, eat lunch in the mess hall and more.

The Citadel Distinguished Scholars Program project showcase

On Wednesday, April 23, The Citadel’s Distinguished Scholars Program, or DPS, will hold their project showcase event, where DSP seniors will present their work. There will be a reception in the American Atrium outside the Capers Hall auditorium at 4 p.m., and the presentations will begin at 4:30 p.m.

The scholars have been developing these projects, which examine some of the most pressing issues we face today, since their sophomore years. Come learn about how these projects have developed and hear about scholars’ findings, recommendations and future project plans. This is free and open to the public.

Promoting the highest academic and service standards, The Citadel’s Distinguished Scholars Program fosters intellectual discourse and global citizenship to aid scholars in securing fellowships and graduate study at prestigious institutions. Fine Arts awards ceremony and presentation of Governor’s Award for the Arts

The Citadel’s Fine Arts Program will have its awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 28, at 5 p.m. inside the Capers Hall auditorium. Celebrate the Fine Arts seniors with an exhibit of their artwork that will be on view through graduation. Winners of the many Fine Arts prizes will be announced at the program. There will also be a presentation of the Governor’s Award for the Arts.
