The Citadel Academy of Engineers honors engineering leaders from both the public and private sectors who have enjoyed substantial success in their professional lives and made significant contributions to their communities. On Thursday, April 3, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The Citadel Academy of Engineers will induct their 2025 honorees. This event will take place at the Holliday Alumni Center.

All inductees have lived a life consistent with The Citadel School of Engineering vision, which is to educate and innovate engineers that impact the world through principled leadership. Each inductee incorporates The Citadel’s core values of honor, duty and respect by building the reputation of engineering education excellence, modeling responsibility for student centered success and giving mutual respect in inclusion of all Citadel students. Baker School of Business Hall of Fame

On Thursday, April 3, the Baker School of Business Hall of Fame will recognize those individuals who are leaders in their respective fields. The event, held every other year, honors and thanks the recipients for their contributions to the business community. Click here to purchase tickets.

Academic Excellence Day

Each spring at The Citadel, top cadets and students share their research at the annual Academic Excellence Day.

This year’s event will be held in-person in the Deas Hall gymnasium on Friday, April 4, from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Cadets and students will be presenting posters that represent the research they’ve conducted over the past year. Ninety four student posters will be on display, representing scholarly work from a wide variety of disciplines.

14th Annual Henry Dale Smith Public Speaking Competition

Monday, April 7

The 14th annual Henry Dale Smith Public Speaking Competition will be held on Monday, April 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Capers Hall auditorium.

Public speaking continually ranks as one of the most sought-after skills in leadership, and the Henry Dale Smith Public Speaking Competition highlights The Citadel’s unique student body by bringing the most passionate, intellectual and ambitious leaders to the stage for a chance to win money and recognition.

The first winner receives a cash prize of $250 and the title of “The Lowcountry’s Best Speaker in 2025,” second place will receive $125 and third place will receive $75. “Viewer’s Choice,” voted on by the audience, will also receive a $50 gift card.

There are seats open to the public but must be reserved in advance by emailing sfourney@citadel.edu.

The Great Gatsby at 100

The year 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of “The Great Gatsby.” To commemorate this milestone, Lauren Rule Maxwell, Ph.D., professor at The Citadel and Director of The Citadel Distinguished Scholars Program, along with her students, will present their research on the novel. They will explore its themes, significance and lasting impact, shedding light on why it continues to resonate with readers and scholars alike.

Army MEDEVAC and Chinook helicopters on campus

Wednesday, April 9
12:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Summerall Field, The Citadel campus
Free, open to the public

On Wednesday, April 9, The Citadel’s Army ROTC department will bring two CH-47 Chinooks to campus to provide orientation flights for freshmen and sophomores cadets, as well as Army HH-60 Blackhawk/MEDEVAC for static display and medical recruiting.

This event will take place on Summerall Field and is free and open to the public.

Final round of Baker Business Bowl

Wednesday, April 9
3 – 6:30 p.m.
Bastin Hall Room 104, The Citadel campus
Free, open to the public

The final round of the Baker Business Bowl will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9.

During the final round, those teams will present a full business plan for their idea — including marketing, pricing and production strategies, detailed financial projections, and other relevant business details — to a judging committee, which will decide the first and second place winner.

The first place prize is $10,000, meant to help them start their business; the second-place team will receive $5,000.

The five teams that made it to the finals are:

  • Wind Energy Solutions
  • ZenArc Technologies

The Baker Business Bowl is a program aimed at helping budding entrepreneurs who have an idea for a new product or service and the desire to turn that idea into a business. The competition is open to cadets, evening undergraduate students and graduate students. The final five teams will be given the opportunity to attend a series of educational workshops on how to develop their full business plan. This year is the eleventh year of the Baker Business Bowl.

Annual Forecast Dinner

On Thursday, April 10, the CFA Society South Carolina will be hosting its Annual Forecast Dinner, an exclusive event that will provide insight and entertainment for finance professionals and enthusiasts alike. The event will take place inside Bastin Hall on the campus of The Citadel. This annual gathering will bring together a distinguished panel of speakers who will share their expertise and forecasts for the future of the financial landscape.

Inaugural Charleston Walking Summit

On Friday, April 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., join Professor Paul Roof, Ph.D., sociology professor and walking advocate as he hosts the Inaugural Charleston Walking Summit. The keynote speaker for the event will be Tim Keane, City of Charleston Planning, Permitting and Engineering, who will be presenting issues relating to Charleston in the areas of walkability and pedestrian safety.

Admitted Student Day 2025

The Citadel will host Admitted Student Day on Saturday, April 12. It will give those accepted to The Citadel for fall 2025 a chance to further explore the opportunities they will have as a cadet.

The goal of Admitted Student Day is to help prospective cadets understand what cadet life is like.

Visitors will have a chance to connect with future classmates, learn more about their major, watch a physical training demonstration, learn about different ways to pay for college, eat lunch in the mess hall and more.

On Tuesday, April 15, The Citadel will host Barracks to Broadway in the Capers Hall auditorium. The event will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. From Waitress to West Side Story, from Operation Mincemeat to Les Miserables and beyond, Citadel cadets take on favorite Broadway melodies old and new! Finance Speaker series

On Wednesday, April 16, the Baker School of Business will host their Finance Speaker series with Bill Ackerman. This event will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Bastin Hall atrium.

Bill Ackman is the CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management, L.P. which he founded in 2003. He is a member of the board of Universal Music Group N.V. He serves as a member of the Investor Advisory Committee on Financial Markets for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and as a member of the Board of Dean’s Advisors of the Harvard Business School. Mr. Ackman is co-trustee of The Pershing Square Foundation, part of Pershing Square Philanthropies, that bets on innovative leaders solving humanity’s big societal, environmental, and health challenges.

2025 Sigma Xi New Membership and Award Banquet

Sigma Xi members from MUSC, College of Charleston, The Citadel and professionals in the Lowcountry will gather together to welcome new members and to celebrate the success of Sigma Xi awardees’ research in science and faculty mentorship. Annually, the Charleston Chapter of Sigma Xi presents awards for student presenters at the MUSC Student Research Day, the College of Charleston’s Graduate Program in Marine Biology Symposium, The Citadel Student Academic Excellence Day and the annual meeting of South Carolina Academy of Science.

Opening of senior showcase exhibit and Fine Arts awards ceremony

The Citadel’s Fine Arts Program will have the opening of its senior showcase exhibit and awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 22, from 5 to 6 p.m. inside the Capers Hall auditorium. Celebrate the Fine Arts seniors with an exhibit of their artwork that will be on view through graduation. Winners of the many Fine Arts prizes will be announced at the program. 

The Citadel Distinguished Scholars Program project showcase

On Wednesday, April 23, The Citadel’s Distinguished Scholars Program, or DPS, will hold their project showcase event, where six DSP seniors will present their projects. A Q&A session will also be held at the end of the event. This is free and open to the public.

Promoting the highest academic and service standards, The Citadel’s Distinguished Scholars Program fosters intellectual discourse and global citizenship to aid scholars in securing fellowships and graduate study at prestigious institutions. The program supports student-led Distinguished Scholar Projects through mentoring, guidance and financial support. Click here  to learn more about the program.
