The Citadel’s Department of Mathematical Sciences will host a mathematics and statistics colloquium presentation titled “Randomization Methods for Clinical Trials” by Dr. Sherry Livingston.
Randomized clinical trials are conducted to evaluate the safety, effectiveness and potential side effects of new medical treatments, drugs or interventions. A key process, known as randomization, helps ensure that differences in outcomes can be attributed to the treatment rather than confounding factors by balancing both known and unknown variables across groups.
Dr. Sherry Livingston is a Research Assistant Professor of Biostatistics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), working with the Data Coordination Unit in the Department of Public Health Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. in Biostatistics from MUSC in 2023. Prior to biostatistics, Livingston earned degrees in Mathematics and Mathematics Education and was a full-time adjunct math professor from 2007–2017 and the Director of Math Lab from 2014-2017 at The Citadel.
