The Citadel to resume normal operations on Thursday, Aug. 8

The Citadel will return to normal operations tomorrow – Thursday, Aug. 8.

Summer classes are back to their normal schedule. Instructors may communicate directly with students for any class-specific instructions.

Campus offices and facilities will reopen as well with regularly scheduled hours. Employees impacted by the storm and unable to travel to campus on Thursday should coordinate with their supervisor.

Offices will maintain normal summer hours, though certain departments will be open on Friday to support the incoming Class of 2028.

Services open on Friday include:

  • Office of Admissions
  • Financial Aid
  • Student Business Services
  • Office of the Registrar
  • The Cadet Store and the Mark Clark Bookstore
  • MUSC Clinic

Matriculation Day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10, as planned. Additional information about Matriculation Day can be found at this link.

Tuesday, Aug. 6

The Citadel continues to monitor conditions and the forecast as Tropical Storm Debby remains off the South Carolina coast.

Administrative offices will remain closed on Wednesday and in-person classes are canceled. Cadre training will continue as scheduled. Information about Thursday’s campus operations will be provided tomorrow. Essential employees should continue to work with their supervisors regarding requirements for the week.

Matriculation Day is still planned for Saturday, Aug. 10 though many of the associated events scheduled for Friday, Aug. 9, have been cancelled; incoming cadets will receive direct communications from the Office of Admissions regarding these events. Any incoming cadets who have concerns or difficulty traveling to the area should contact Admissions at admissions@citadel.edu or 843-953-5230.

Monday, Aug. 5

Due to heavy rains and expected flooding caused by Tropical System Debby, The Citadel will close its administrative offices Tuesday and Wednesday; information on Thursday’s schedule will be provided at a later date.

Essential personnel should check with their supervisors regarding requirements throughout the week.

In-person classes on Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday will be canceled. Online classes will not be affected. Cadets and students enrolled in summer classes will receive communications directly from their instructors.

Cadets will remain on campus throughout the weather event. Cadre will continue training with a modified schedule.

The mess hall, Infirmary and Deas Hall will remain open. The coin-operated laundromat will also be open and available without charge.

Other locations on Tuesday and Wednesday that will be closed include:

  • Post Office
  • Cadet Store
  • Mark Clark Bookstore and Marketplace
  • Starbucks and Chick-fil-A
  • Barber Shop

Services that will be available virtually include:

  • Cadet and CGC Admissions
  • Registrar’s Office
  • Daniel Library
  • Center for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching, Learning and Distance Education
  • Student Success Center
  • Information Technology Support

Campus emergency response personnel will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as necessary.
