A message from the President of The Citadel

Citadel Family:

I regret my first time writing in the new year is for tragic news.

Sullivan Watkins, a senior cadet in Delta Company, passed away at his home over the weekend. We are in contact with his family and ask you to join Gail and I in keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this unimaginably difficult time.

While the details of Sully’s upcoming memorial services are not yet available, we will share what we learn. For now, let us reflect on his time as a member of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. Sully was an exemplary cadet who served as a platoon leader while pursuing his degree in Construction Engineering. He earned Gold Stars and Dean’s List multiple times. With his 2024 classmates, he proudly received his ring last fall. As we think of his family in Ladson, we extend our thoughts to his Citadel family – those who knew him best here on campus.

I ask you continue to support each other, now and in the future. We have multiple resources available for those who may be struggling. The Chaplain’s office is available for the campus community for support and counselling, and to connect you with others for needed help.
