
South Carolina Humanities, a nonprofit that explores the state’s rich cultural heritage, has named Brian Madison Jones, Ph.D., dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, to its Board of Directors.
SC Humanities is dedicated to increasing public understating of, and support for, the humanities through educational programming and advocacy. Through grants, community partnerships and public programming, SC Humanities encourages dialogue, reflection and understanding across the state.
“I am honored to be appointed to the SC Humanities Board and am excited to explore ways to support all our humanities programming across the state as we foster a broad appreciation of our history, culture and creativity,” said Jones. “I look forward to continuing to serve South Carolina and promoting and celebrating those core values that unite our shared humanity.”
Jones is a historian and leader in higher education with more than 15 years of experience in both administrative and academic roles. As dean of The Citadel’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences, he oversees the launch of innovative educational programs, strengthens community partnerships and advances initiatives while also supporting student success, faculty research and public engagement.
In his role as Board member for SC Humanities, Jones will contribute his expertise in higher education, history and public service to help guide SC Humanities’ various programs and advocacy efforts.
SC Humanities’ programs explore the rich heritage of our state and its links to the cultural traditions of our nation and world and it serves as a coordinator for a wide-ranging number of groups.
